Network and communication technology is evolving towards the direction of “3s-abc”. Yu Shaohua, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, expressed this view at the New Generation Internet Infrastructure Forum in 2017. At present, there are four major trends in the development of network and communication technology, namely, big convergence, big connection, big data and new intelligence. At present, data communication, mobile communication and optical fiber communication technology are evolving toward the direction of “3S-abc”. “3” means the interconnection of human beings to the network and then to the objects of the three hundred billion level. “S” represents the software definition of the network, network function virtualization and open source, “a” refers to the network of artificial intelligence, “b” is the network of big data. C is the cloud of the Internet. We are on the eve of a disruptive technological revolution, and almost all basic technologies call for major breakthroughs in principle. In this context, China’s ICT industry is accelerating the transformation from imitation to innovation-driven, from running from heel to running and leading the charge.
In the field of data communication, SDN / NFV and other technologies have become the focus of the innovation of the current data communication network technology, promoting the network to be open, intelligent, ubiquitous and integrated. At the same time, the global network architecture is turning from the vertical architecture to the horizontal open architecture, which mainly embodies the separation of control and forwarding, the decoupling of network element software and hardware, the virtualization of network virtualization and the virtualization of network functions, the operation of network and IT. In the field of optical fiber communication, the optical communication technology in our country has changed from imitation to innovation-driven, and the key technology research has continuously impacted the international advanced level. Specifically, there are three main directions of optical network transformation: soft definition operation, soft definition network and soft definition framework. In the future, optical fiber communication will go to land sea space network and ubiquitous optical access.
The development of network and communication technology still needs to turn over six technical walls. Yu Shaohua disclosed that, firstly, the wireless spectrum resources are increasingly exhausted, and need new frequency bands and new wireless mobile communication theory to achieve breakthroughs; secondly, The Internet is short of IPv4 addresses and TCP/IP framework has certain limitations; thirdly, the transmission capacity of optical fiber communication is further enhanced by optical fiber nonlinear constraints; fourthly, the planar feature size of integrated circuits is close to the physical limit. Moore’s law, which has existed for 50 years, is changing course, and new materials and new technologies are developing a new roadmap for the microelectronics industry; Fifthly, energy consumption per bit of information transmission of existing technology will encounter bottlenecks; sixthly, traditional ideas and methods have been unable to deal with large data, “killer” applications have not yet been invented.
In the next ten years, the ternary interconnection will connect the whole world, and there will be super agents in the far future. Super Agent, which is a collection of human wisdom, is a gigantic agent that spreads all over the world and is ubiquitous all the time. By then, human beings will be redefined, artificial intelligence and biotechnology will revolutionize human society and economy, even human body and mind.
China is speeding up the transition from a “network giant” to a “network power”, in which the layout and construction of the next generation of Internet is of great significance. Li Xing said that at the beginning of this century, developed countries have launched the next generation of Internet programs, trying to maintain the Internet dominance to seize control of the future cyberspace. There is a serious shortage of Internet addresses in our country. The development of IPv6 will promote our country to grasp the opportunity of Internet technology transformation and realize leapfrog development.
